All SOUL Camp programs now taking place virtually!
Fri, 07/17/2020 - 11:09amAs of 7/15/2020 – With the recent surge of COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations in Lafayette Parish and the state of Louisiana, and after many discussions with current students, office staff, and university administration, we have made the decision to move SOUL Camp to a virtual format.
Given the current state of the pandemic, this is a necessary decision to protect the health and safety of all participants, SOUL Camp mentors, and university staff members. We are committed to providing an outstanding virtual experience while also doing our part in preventing the spread of COVID-19.
Campers will be able to participate in SOUL Camp at home - no events will take place physically in Lafayette. We are still planning to have our fundamental SOUL Camp activities in this virtual space – the activities that we know have the largest impact to an incoming freshman’s transition to college. Those activities include: plenty of small group time to meet and connect with other incoming students and current students, learning about the University’s history and traditions, learning about diversity, acceptance, and inclusion on campus, opportunities to hear from and connect with current UL Lafayette employees, and leadership development activities to kick-start your first semester!
Dates
-
Registered campers should keep their original SOUL Camp dates free on their calendars (SOUL Camp 337: July 24-26; SOUL Camp A: August 8 -11; SOUL Camp B: August 13 -16).
-
We are readjusting our schedule to fit in a virtual format during these dates.
-
Campers will receive more details of what our schedule will look like once the virtual schedule is finalized.
Refunds
-
We will be providing a full refund to all registered campers.
-
Please allow us a few weeks to get those processed.
-
Students who paid for SOUL Camp via ACH (e-check) or physical check, will be contacted individually as those refunds require some additional information from the student.
Housing & Move-In
-
Campers who are living on campus for the Fall semester will be given a time during Move In (August 12-15) to move into their residence hall. Information and details regarding Move In will come directly from the Housing Office. This move in time will not conflict with SOUL Camp. These details also need to be finalized and will be communicated later.
-
Please visit the Housing Office’s COVID-19 Response Page for preliminary information about Fall 2020 Move In.
-
If you have any questions about living on campus or move in, please email oncampusliving@louisiana.edu
-
We apologize for this change and we appreciate your flexibility and understanding.
We ask for your patience and understanding as we pivot to plan this exciting virtual experience. We will continue to communicate updates and details as those become finalized. Please email soulcamp@louisiana.edu with any questions about SOUL Camp.
