The University of Louisiana at Lafayette offers two types of tests for first-time freshmen. The Math Placement Exam and Math 109 Qualifying Exam, coordinated by the Math Department, and Advance Credit Exams, which are offered in various subjects, and coordinated by the Office of Orientation.
Math Placement Exam
The Math Placement Exam is for first time freshmen students whose Math ACT is 20 or below and wish to place into MATH 092, 100, 105, OR 107. The Math Placement Exam may be taken once for a given semester. Reservations are not required.
Students who meet any of the following criteria should consider taking this optional placement exam:
- Below a 20 MATH sub-score on the ACT. Please note that students who have an ACT MATH sub-score below 17 are encouraged to take this exam before Orientation.
OR
- Wish to challenge their math placement.

MATH 109 Qualifying Exam
This mathematics placement exam is for qualified students who wish to place into MATH 109. Permission is required for this exam. Make reservations by contacting the Mathematics Department at (337) 482-6702 or math@louisiana.edu.
Who should consider taking this optional placement exam?
Students with a MATH sub-score between 22 and 24 on the ACT wishing to place into MATH 109.
This exam may be taken only once.

Advance Credit Exams (ACE) - April 3-4, 2008
The Advance Credit Exam Program is an invitational program for high achieving students admitted to UL Lafayette. It is offered in conjunction with our Early Freshman Orientation program. Students entering UL in the summer or fall session who meet eligibility requirements will be mailed an invitation in February.
The program will take place on April 3, 2008 from 2:30 - 5:30 p.m. and April 4, 2008 from 7:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Reservations for this program are accepted on-line and are managed by the Office of Orientation.
Advance Credit Exams - Additional Test Dates
Students entering UL Lafayette in the Summer and Fall 2008 semesters have two additional opportunities to attempt Advance Credit Exams. Please note that eligibility requirements apply. Each exam may only be attempted once.
Reservations for these additional test dates are accepted by phone (where applicable) and are managed by the academic department.

Students are also required to submit a letter from a teacher, on official school letterhead, certifying that the paper is the student’s original work. Submit research papers and letter from your teacher as you enter the testing room. Part II: Essay Exam: Write an argumentative essay on a topic related to current events or personal experience. |
