Registering for Orientation

Congratulations on your admission to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette! Your UL Lafayette college career begins with New Student Orientation. With the exception of Online Degree Students, all new students are required to complete in-person Orientation prior to registering for classes.

Students admitted into our Online Degree Programs will complete a separate online orientation for Online Learners (visit this website for details).

Your advising and course registration times will be assigned according to your scheduled Orientation session. Because space in each Orientation session is limited, we encourage you to review your options and complete your Orientation registration as soon as possible. Once you select your orientation date, you will pay your Orientation fee to reserve your space online.

Our Student Orientation Staff, faculty and staff look forward to meeting you at Orientation. Congratulations on your acceptance and welcome to the UL Lafayette family!

New Student Orientation Registration Process

Step 1: Create your ULID password

Skip this step if you have already created a password for your ULID.

Use the ULID* (C00000000) found on your acceptance letter and visit the ULID Activate Account Webpage. Follow the prompts to select your security questions and create your password.

*Need to look up your ULID? Visit our IT Service Desk's Forgotten User Name Website

Having Password Creation Issues? Contact our IT Service Desk at 337-482-4357 or visit their Common Password Error Website

Your ULID and password will be needed for course registration, so be sure to bring them with you to orientation.

Step 2: Setup Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

Skip this step if you have already setup MFA.

Once you have activated your ULID please go to https://aka.ms/MFASetup to configure your Multi-Factor Authentication settings. You can read instructions on how to get started with two-step login here.

Contact our IT Service Desk at 337-482-4357 if you are having any difficulty setting up your MFA.

Step 3: Log into the Orientation Reservation System

Use your ULID and password you have created and log into our Orientation Reservation System (click here to be directed to this website in a new window).

Step 4: View your Task List

Once in the registration system, view all of the tasks that you must complete to be prepared to attend orientation. The task list outlines each step of the orientation process in great detail. Some items will automatically check off upon completion, while others are manual for you to mark as complete. The first task you should complete is to register for orientation (see Step 5 below).

Step 5: Register for Orientation

  1. On the task list, click "Register for Orientation" and then "Next". This will bring you into the orientation reservation system.
  2. Personal Information - Complete the required fields including Emergency Contact information. Please also provide a secondary email you check regularly. Do not use your high school email address since most do not work after graduation. Click Save and Continue at the bottom of the page.
  3. Questionnaire - Complete the required fields and let us know if you require any special accommodations (especially dietary) while at Orientation. Click Save and Continue at the bottom of the page.
  4. Dates - Choose your orientation date. This date is important as you will be advised and register for classes based on this date.
    • This is also where you will select overnight housing (offered only at our two-day Freshman Sessions). Once you select your orientation date, click the housing check box that appears just under that date.
    • Click Save and Continue at the bottom of the page.
  5. Parent & Family Orientation - If you have a parent or guardian that wishes to attend Parent & Family Orientation, please register them here. Students are limited to 2 guests for Parent & Family Orientation. Parent & Family Orientation is not offered at our one-day Transfer & Adult or Late Sessions. Click Save and Continue at the bottom of the page.
  6. SOUL Camp - Camp is an extended orientation program for new students beginning in the Summer or Fall semesters. Details about the benefits of this amazing experience are located on the SOUL Camp website. Choose from Camp 337, Camp A or Camp B or select "I do not wish to attend SOUL Camp". Click Save and Continue at the bottom of the page.
  7. My Reservation - Thoroughly review your reservation and make any necessary edits by clicking the Edit Section button. This page has an itemized list of your charges. Once you are ready to submit, click the Pay Now button at the top of the page.
  8. Pay Now Screen - Once you click the "Pay Now" button, you will be directed to the payment portal. See Step 6 for payment details.

Step 6: Pay your Orientation fee

  • To immediately secure your spot in your selected orientation, you should pay your orientation fee online with a Credit Card (Visa, Master Card or Discover). This is done by clicking the "Pay Now" button on the My Reservation screen in the orientation registration system and following the prompts in the payment portal.

  • If you wish to mail in a check or money order you may send your payment to the Office of Orientation, PO Box 43685, Lafayette, LA 70504. Make the check payable to UL Lafayette and you must include your ULID on the memo line. PLEASE REMEMBER: your reservation will be incomplete and your spot will not be reserved in your selected orientation until your orientation payment is received. Once payment is received in our office, we will go in and finalize your registration – however if the session has filled to capacity, you will have to select a different orientation date.

  • Should you decide to not attend the University, we must receive written notice via email to cancel your Orientation reservation. Please send your cancellation notice to orientation@louisiana.edu. A full refund, less a $10 processing fee, will be granted if we receive email notice no later than 10 business days (two full weeks) before your scheduled orientation date. NO REFUNDS will be granted after this time.

Step 7: Check your email

Check your email AS SOON AS you complete your orientation registration. You will receive important details to prepare you for your in-person orientation session. You will also receive a final confirmation of your registration via e-mail one week prior to your orientation session. This e-mail will be sent to the e-mail address you submitted when registering for orientation, so make sure it is an email you check regularly.

Step 8: Lifting your Orientation hold - FOR TRANSFER STUDENTS ONLY

After you schedule your orientation session, our office will lift your orientation hold.

  • We receive a report in the morning of each business day notifying us of those who registered for orientation the day before. Holds are released at that time.
  • OR, after you schedule your orientation, you may contact us during regular business hours (Monday-Thursday 7:30 AM - 5:00 PM and Friday 7:30 AM - 12:30 PM) and we will lift your hold manually. You can call us at 337-482-1391 or email orientation@louisiana.edu.

Step 9: Get Advised! - FOR TRANSFER STUDENTS ONLY

ONLY Transfer students are allowed to be advised prior to attending orientation. Contact your advisor (the contact information for your advisor is found in the Transfer Welcome email sent to you by the Academic Success Center) and schedule your advising appointment. Once advised, your advisor will lift your advising hold and once registered for orientation, our office will lift your orientation hold. After all of your holds are lifted (including the immunization hold), you will be able to schedule classes once your registration time begins.

You can access the University Course Registration Guide in ULink: once logged in, click the three lines in the top left, click "Academics", scroll to find the "Registration" card and then click "Prepare for Registration". There are three helpful guides under the Get Ready to Register section.
